What Bodybuilding taught me
I entered 2021 with a plan to prep for several amateur bodybuilding shows. This is a photo of my first show in March of 2021, finishing with double bronze in my divisions.
To get “stage ready” or “prep” I transformed my lifestyle. I weighed out every thing I ate or drank, including gum, trained for 3+ hours a day, had zero social life, and thought only about lifting and eating for 9 months straight. Some would say it’s “extreme” and it is, yet, I craved the lifestyle and would do it again in a heart beat.
However, I am NOT projecting this lifestyle or body shape as “balanced” or “sustainable.” Bodybuilding is an extreme sport and takes a ton of physical , mental, and emotional fortitude.
What bodybuilding taught me is I decide how I want my body to look and feel. It is my responsibility and I reap the rewards. I also learned that it takes a village. I had a professional coach, a couple of workout buddies, and a group of doubters that fueled my fire even more.
When you set a goal, you have to reaffirm your commitment to it. I chose this goal because I want to be a Pro Bikini Bodybuilder. With that, it takes time, work, and patience.
In your health journey, YOU have to have a goal and truly WANT to achieve your goal. YOU have to wake up every day and want to be great and ask yourself “Is what I’m doing today going to set me up for success tomorrow?”
